Program overview

The fellowship program focuses on the surgical management of cancer patients. It is a hands-on training in oncological surgeries, covering both common and rare malignancies. Fellows will also have the opportunity to engage in clinical research, attend international conferences, and work closely with experts in the field of oncology.

The program aims to enhance the fellows' ability to manage complex cancer cases with a multidisciplinary approach, integrating surgical oncology with other specialities like medical oncology, radiation oncology, and pathology.

Hands-on clinical experience

  • Fellows will actively participate in high-volume surgical procedures, including open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgeries.
    • Clinical rotations in multiple subspecialties such as:Breast cancer
    • Head and neck cancer
    • Thoracic oncology
    • Gastrointestinal (GI) oncology
    • Genitourinary (GU) oncology
    • Gynecologic oncology
  • Exposure to rare and complex cancer surgeries with direct involvement in patient care, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Opportunity to assist and lead surgical cases under the supervision of experienced surgical oncologists.
  • Pre and post-operative care of patients, including participation in multidisciplinary tumour boards.

Comprehensive training in the latest technologies and methods used in surgical oncology, including:

  • Minimally invasive surgery: Laparoscopic techniques for staging and treatment of cancers.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery: State-of-the-art robotic systems for precision in cancer surgeries.
  • Reconstructive surgery: Post surgery reconstructive techniques to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Oncoplastic surgery: A combination of oncology and plastic surgery for optimal aesthetic and functional results, especially in breast cancer.
  • Work closely with specialists in medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology to develop a collaborative treatment strategy.
  • Regular participation in tumour boards, case discussions, and clinical meetings to formulate comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary decision-making for personalised cancer therapy, emphasizing precision medicine and targeted treatment options.
  • Involvement in ongoing clinical research projects under the guidance of senior oncologists and researchers.

  • Educational background: Candidates must hold a degree in medicine (MBBS) and a postgraduate degree (MS, DNB, or equivalent) in general surgery.
  • Clinical experience: Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in general surgery or a related surgical field. Experience in oncology surgery is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Candidates must be registered with the Medical Council of India.
