Why Blood Donation?

Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person - the gift of life. When you donate blood, you can help someone to live longer. Healthy people must donate blood regularly to ensure safe blood is accessible whenever and wherever required.

There is a constant need for a regular blood supply because it can be stored only for a limited period before use. Regular blood donation by a sufficient number of healthy people is needed to ensure that blood will always be available whenever and wherever it is required.

Benefits of donating blood

Donating blood not just benefits the receiver but also the donor as it stimulates the formation of new blood cells. Regularly donating blood may improve your heart health. It gives a sense of well-being to the donor for having done community service and done their role in saving someone’s life.

What can you donate?

A single blood donation can save up to 3 lives - blood is separated into its components – red cells, platelets and plasma – which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.

Who can donate?

The donor must be above 18 years and below 65 years of age. He/she must have a haemoglobin count not less than 12.5 g/dl. The weight should not be less than 45 kg. One should have a normal body temperature at the time of donation.
