She has been the pioneer in the city and state of Gujarat to start the reconstruction after Mastectomy with Implants/Prosthesis for Breast Cancer.
Surgeries like Conservative Breast Preservation Surgery for early cases of Cancer, Breast removal for cancer breast, Plastic Surgical Procedures, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery like Breast Reduction, Breast Augmentation, Breast lift etc. are done under her guidance by her and her team.

Dr Shefali is currently working as a Senior Consultant in the Breast Clinic at KD Hospital, Ahmedabad.
She is one of the pioneers and leaders to start and develop Laparoscopic Surgeries in Ahmedabad way back in 1992 at several hospitals of Ahmedabad including teaching medical colleges & hospitals like V. S. Hospital, Civil Hospital and Kesar SAL hospital.
She has been also trained at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital, New York – National Cancer Institute, Milan and European Institute of Oncology, Milan for Breast Cancer Surgery and Breast Implants.
She has been a teaching faculty in the medical colleges of Ahmedabad, Gujarat for 14 years. She has trained several students and surgeons.
Dr Shefali Desai has been treating several patients from and around the state as well as from UK, USA, Africa, Europe etc. for breast problems.

As a prominent Breast Surgeon, she has given educational and awareness talks on Breast Self Examination and Breast problems at several institutes, hospitals and gatherings – Medical and Non-medical.
Her articles and talks on Breast Problems have featured in several local newspapers often.
She has been a Member of various medical associations like Surgeons Association of India, Association of Breast Surgeon’s of India and Association of Minimally Invasive Surgery.
